Still Stuck in Lockdown…

Well, the world as we know it came to a screeching halt in March, with the announcement of a coronavirus pandemic. Lots of information has passed through various sources since then, and Covid-19 is still at the root of worldwide travel bans and lockdowns as many countries do their best to prevent the spread of this infectious virus.

Social distancing is an interesting term – and it seems that many people have a different view of exactly what it means. While most people are doing their best to follow the restrictions laid down by health authorities and police agencies, some are rebelling…as is the norm in most societies.

One thing that I find amusing is what seems to be a disregard in some people for the health and welfare of others. We’re all in the same boat, so to speak, and yet some people are acting much more “put out” by the current rules and restrictions than others. The majority of us are accepting that the distancing and lockdowns are a necessary part of quarantining the virus and preventing its continued propagation. But there are people who are still going out every. single. day. because of some misplaced “need” to purchase something.

I also find some items on the list of “essential services” to be quite amusing. I understand the thinking behind it – or at least i think I do. While many of us don’t believe that beer and liquour stores are exactly “essential”, there is a cross-section of society who would not be able to continue functioning if their supply of alcohol was cut off. I don’t say that to be facetious or denegrating; it’s simply a fact of life. There would be many more hospital beds filled by non-Covid-19 patients if the availability of alcohol was restricted. To prevent that problem, leaving the alcohol retailers open seems like a wise move.

I’m a little concerned from a personal perspective…I’ve just nicely gotten my pet sitting business under way and it looks like it might be awhile before there are any customers again. I’ve been chatting a bit with some house sitting friends of mine – they, too, are quite concerned about the future of their lifestyle. Being a traveller is certainly harder when there are no flights and the countries are closing their borders!

I wonder what sort of long-term effect there will be on the nomadic lifestyle…I think I’m happy I have a couple of years till retirement…everything should hopefully be settled down by then.

My final thought is of all the people who’ve lost loved ones since this pandemic began. ❤️❤️
